Flyght Club is the professional name of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist producer, Shauvik Sharan. Born and raised in Pune, India, five years ago Shauvik moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. Influenced by Classic Rock heroes like Eric Clapton, David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) and Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) his passion for guitar was spawned at an early age. Once he had mastered the instrument he began performing in local bands. He quickly made a name for himself as a consummate musician. That taste of notoriety had him hooked. He then dove into the world of electronic music and was soon booking high-profile DJ gigs as well.
After moving to the United States he continued to expand his creative range by delving into music composition, recording engineering and production. It did not take long for the talented creator to master these skills as well. In 2019 Shauvik Sharan debuted his Flyght Club project; writing, producing and performing all of the music himself. His sound defies classification as he willfully flows between genres to create a completely unique vibe. With elements of Pop, Rock, Jazz and traditional Indian music, Flyght Club is a wild mix of styles from around the world.
“Those American Eyes” is the latest single from Flyght Club, released February 28, 2021. The track is a complex contemporary Pop/Rock song that incorporates multiple musical genres as the singer builds on a metaphor for his pursuit of a life in music and the American Dream. The song opens on a beautifully intricate and melodic Folk/Jazz acoustic guitar piece that brings to mind some of the work of late great guitarist Michael Hedges. Meanwhile, Sharan sings a lovely love song featuring lush layers of vocal harmony.
As the track progresses through its ethereal Pop/Jazz groove it eventually takes on a heavier Rock edge as the song’s main riff moves to a distorted electric guitar. From their Shauvik rips into some smoking lead guitar that recalls some of the fusion Rock styles of virtuosos like Vernon Reid (Living Colour) and Trey Anastasio (Phish). Ultimately the track moves into an extended psychedelic jam featuring Sitar and a Classic Rock synth groove reminiscent of Pink Floyd or some of Alan Parsons’ solo work. The singer’s narrative gradually transforms as well and the song becomes an ode not to an American woman, but to America herself.
My favorite lyric in the song is “Cause I’m sold for those American eyes. Let me hold on to those American thighs that’s got me addicted to your love.” The lyric again signifies how even with all the hardships and obstacles and despite all the failures, I still continue to fight my way up the music scene in the United States
