Boy Indigo’s Cool Neo-Soul Psychedelia

Boy indigo is a new group out of Northern California with strong retro vibes and cool Neo-soul groove. A fully realized music production team, the band writes, records and produces their own music. They even shoot and direct their own videos. Listing influences as varied as Jimi Hendricks, Curtis Mayfield, Pink Floyd, Sade, Radio and Anderson Paak, the band mixes classic soul and psychedelic rock with modern production and style.

“Fading in and Out” is the debut single and video from Boy indigo. Released to YouTube on March 27, 2021. The track is a chill bit of Alt/R&B with a healthy dose of psychedelia and a touch of mystery. A slow soulful beat and smooth organic bass line rides on a bed of ambient keys and guitars. Meanwhile vocalist and guitarist Devon Blue delivers a dreamy scene in a cool whispered falsetto.

The song’s video stars Blue and bassist Chelsea Baker in a surreal murder mystery set in a 1960’s mod aesthetic. The visually vibrant scene is a tapestry of primary colors and trippy visuals. The film feels like a cross between an episode of Forensic Files and The Twilight Zone as we watch Devon’s sinister fate unfold.  It is a great bit of escapist fun.
