Davy Williamson is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Wilmington, North Carolina. The veteran rocker made a name for himself fronting popular regional Alternative bands in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. He formed the group Third Class Passenger in 1998 and went on to lead the band for the next 6 years. He later took up a similar role in the NC Punk Rock band, “Ma Shot Pa.” Davy has now moved on to a solo career, spending most of his time living and working in the Virgin Islands. On March 12, 2021 he dropped his debut solo EP, released worldwide to all major music outlets.
Each of the 8 songs on “Down by the Fire” was written and performed entirely by Williamson. Co-produced by Williamson and Shawn Adkins of Back-A-Round Records, the record finds Davy exploring the dark corners of memory. Through his music the songwriter exorcises his own personal demons in hopes of helping others do the same. He sets his psychological examinations to a hard-hitting, guitar-driven Modern Rock sound, defined by a rock solid rhythm section and expert guitar-work.
“Thin Disguise” is the first single from Davy Williamson’s “Down by the Fire” EP. The song is a deeply personal indictment of an unnamed acquaintance. Over a heavy, guitar-driven midtempo groove Davy delivers an emotional performance that incorporates elements of Alternative, Metal and Emo. With flashes of double-kick drum fills and layers of guitars he sings, “I hate your lies. Your thin disguise.” He is purging the negativity of a toxic relationship, and he’s doing it with radio-ready vocals and some pretty fantastic lead guitar.
