Cade Chavez is a Northern California singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a maturity of sound that belies his young age. The sixteen year-old sophomore in high school released his debut single “Losing Hope” in 2020. However, that track and all three of his subsequent singles were the result of years of writing and practicing.
First starting on the piano and then shifting to guitar three years ago, Cade has developed a distinctly mellow and melancholy Indie-Folk sound. Citing influences such as Vance Joy and Plain White Tees, Chavez sings introspective acoustic songs that explore the difficult realities of teen life in America.
“Now or Never” is the latest single from Cade Chavez, released worldwide to all major streaming services on March 24, 2021. With a sound that lies somewhere between the mellow 90’s Alternative Rock of Oasis and the Emo Americana of Conor Oberst, Cade delivers a soulful narrative of an eventful night. As a lyricist Cade paints his scenario with loose associations and esoteric personal references. We don’t know the specifics of the story, but we don’t need to. His tale of teen rebellion and regret is not about the details, it’s about the emotion. And that comes through loud and clear.
Musically the song centers around Cade’s guitar and vocals. However, throughout the track ambient synths and electric guitars float in the distance. Sparse shuffling percussion enters the mix at random intervals. The arrangement creates a cool, personal vibe. The song is beautifully recorded. We feel as though we are there with the singer as he tells his tale.
