Dave Monday’s New Love Letter “Qiyuqtaq”

Dave Monday is an indigenous Canadian artist based in Toronto, Ontario. The singer began making music in 2015 when he first moved to the city. He immediately began working on his debut album “GINW Deluxe.” Four years in the making, the record was released in 2019 and featured a rich mix of musical styles combining Trap, Hip-hop, EDM, Pop and traditional grooves. The record featured political anthems and personal narratives as he sang of the plight of indigenous people.

Although he was quiet through much of 2020, Monday has entered the new year with a brand new burst of creative energy. So far this year he has already dropped a series of singles and EPs. Once again the artist is experimenting with different flavors of Pop, R&B and Hip-hop music and relaying both personal and societal stories of love, life and the struggle. In addition to his strong political conviction, the singer has love on his mind.

“Qiyuqtaq” is a new two song collection from Dave Monday. The record is dedicated to the love of his life, hia new wife. The record opens with “Calling On You.” A mellow acoustic guitar plays quietly in the background and is buoyed by smooth ambient synths. A classic 808 Trap beat bounces with a Reggaeton inspired bass as the singer declares his love for his “baby.” “Over And Again” follows and works as a smooth companion piece to the previous track. Once again the singer sings directly to his wife. In a chill and soulful tone he sings, “You’re running through my veins and you will always be the only baby that can set me free.”
