Sam Zee is a multifaceted artist from Brooklyn, New York. Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist producer and dancer; Zee makes music inspired by his heroes of the 80’s and 90’s. Heavily influenced by Michael Jackson, he incorporates multiple genres into his retro sound. Since his 2018 debut “Surprise,” Sam has released a steady string of singles. With each new song he further develops and defines his unique R&B/Hip-hop fueled Pop groove.
“Crazy Like That” is the latest single by Sam Zee and his first of the new year. Released worldwide to all major streaming services on April 2, the song finds the artist at the top of his funky Pop game. The track is a warning to anyone who may be attracted to a girl who is “crazy like that.” Inspired by similar tales of toxic femme fatales, like Bell Biv Devoe’s “Poison” or Michael Jackson’s “Dirty Diana,” Sam’s new song tells of a girl is, “So fine but she’ll mess with your mind.”
It is about not trusting and falling for a toxic girl who is ‘crazy like that,’ because in the end, you’ll only get played.Sam Zee
Musically the track rides on a classic 90’s Hip-hop beat. The sparse arrangement matches that groove with some 80’s synths and Sam’s excellent MJ-style high tenor. Staccato chords and harpsichord style arpeggios paint the edges of the mix as Zee tells his tale of woe and caution with expertly executed R&B vocals and a few well-placed hoots and hollers.
