Iyah Syte – Warnings, Praise And A Mother’s Love

Iyah Syte is a popular and fast rising star from Montego Bay, Jamaica. Ever since his 2006 debut single “Blood in the Street ” he has been working with some of the biggest names in Reggae music. Over the years he has shared the same stage with artists such as King Yellowman, Beenie Man, Beres Hammond, Tanya Stevens and many more.

In the past year we have seen a flurry of activity from Iyah Syte. Since 2020 the prolific artist has released five new singles, including a number of high profile collabs. With each new release his international appeal has grown. All of this activity has been leading up to his current hit “Warning,” a collaboration with Reggae legend, Beanie Man.

Warning” rides on a classic Reggae groove. A mix of acoustic and electronic bass and drums set a steady mid tempo rhythm with backbeat piano and guitar. As ambient synths and backing vocals swirl on the edges of the mix, Iyah Syte and Beanie Man deliver a deadly serious and timely warning. As they sing “think before you pick up your nine,” they urge young black people everywhere to be aware of the potential repercussions of their actions. They warn them to be conscious of police brutality before they themselves turn to violence.

Other recent releases from Iyah Syte include the mellow downbeat ode to Rasta and Ganja, “Chalice.” On that track the singer collaborates with Knatch Rychus and Imar Shepard. Popular Jamaican singer Lutan Fyah joins him on the personal tale “Almost Never Count.” Syte flies solo on the beautiful ballad “A Mother’s Love.” He sings of the heartbreaking loss of his own mother as he sings a dedication to all mothers everywhere.
