Yona Marie is the professional name of singer, songwriter and producer Rachel Marie Moore. Her love of music began in childhood when she and her family would sing together at First Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church in Washington, DC. Later she attended performing arts schools including; Hyattsville Middle School, Suitland High School, and Jacksonville University.
Over the last decade the singer has enjoyed a string of multi-genre successes. She had online hits with her 2010 project “The Luv Exposure,” the 2013 neo-soul track “High” and the 2016 Eli Way EDM collaboration “Just Wanna Love You.” When not creating viral songs and videos, Yona works as a session singer, writer, and producer. She writes, performs and records high-quality jingles, singles, features, nursery rhymes, and DJ drops for hundreds of clients. She is also a blogger and influencer who helps other independent musicians navigate their way through the new stream-centric music industry.

This time the adventurous artist has created a mesmerizing mash-up of Hip-hop, Soul and Opera. Paying homage to Henry Purcell’s popular Aria “Dido’s Lament” from the opera “Dido and Aeneas.” Yona puts a modern spin on the deeply distressing tale of Dido’s ultimate undoing.
The Carthage queen was abandoned by her lover, Trojan hero Aeneas, and suffered intense emotional turmoil that leads her to the act of committing suicide on a pyre built to burn her faithless lover’s possessions.
