Kubs is a singer, songwriter, rapper and producer from London, UK. He made his debut in 2020 with the seven track SoundCloud EP “Raw.” With that record he introduced a laid back, Alternative Hip-hop vibe. With a sound that is influenced by Rock, Pop and Rap he creates mellow, downtempo beats paired with personal and often emotional lyrics.
“SRTB” is the latest single from Kubs, released to Soundcloud on March 26, 2021. The song rides on a chill beat that pairs a Trap groove with elements of lo-fi Hip-hop. A simple, lower register piano chord progression sets the scene as psychedelic synths paint the edges of the mix. Meanwhile, Kubs delivers a meditative melodic rap. It’s a cool and hypnotic sound that creates a mood and keeps us there as the rapper paints a stream of consciousness picture of loosely associated memories and emotions.

Where are you from?
I’m from London, UK
How long have you been making music?
I started making music at 16 but was inconsistent. Became consistent at around age 20.
Who are the musicians involved in your project?
I’m the only one involved. I produce, write, record and (try to) mix.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
My influences range from alt rock to modern hip hop. Young thug, Gunna, Drake, Pierre bourne. I developed my sound through listening to those kinds of artists although I think the product is very different.
What is your greatest non-musical influence?
My greatest non musical influence besides my life experiences is probably other media forms. I love sampling or taking ideas from movies and video games.
What inspired you to create this project?
This song was inspired by being locked down during the pandemic, like a lot of other artists. I think people have spent a lot of time dwelling on emotions and past experiences during this time and that’s what this song feels like to me.
What are your plans for the future (musically)?
I plan to keep making music forever. I would like to branch out and have some sort of community. So far I haven’t promoted anything and so my music has kind of been locked up but I want to start creating with other people.
