Mike OhMy is the professional name of Derrick Michael Lee, a multi-talented aspiring American Hip-hop artist from Laurel, Maryland in the Washington DC area. A rapper, singer, producer and songwriter, the multifaceted creator also became a record label owner in 2019 with the launch of his company Organic Records. Since starting the label he has released a steady flow of singles and two full length albums.
On January 1, 2021 Mike OhMy dropped the full length concept album, Gotham nights. The record tells a series of tales each wrapped in a Batman and/or superhero theme. Among his influences Mike counts; Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller, Kanye West, Mick Jenkins, and Childish Gambino. His latest single is the sexy chillout track, “Return to the Bat Cave.”
The song opens with a smooth electric piano intro. Those keys remain at the heart of the track throughout. Soon a chill, downtempo, lo-fi Hip-hop beat drops and Mike OhMy launches his fantasy narrative. With a laidback flow and clever wordplay he uses the story of Batman and Bruce Wayne as metaphor for a sexy seduction. The rapper flows smoothly between his chill rap, a soulful falsetto and a brief verse of fast chopping.
