Chapterz Debut New Album “A Story You Can Change”

Chapterz is a brand new Hip-hop crew hailing from Northern Colorado. Formed in 2020, the trio of HazMatt775, Johnny Battle and WyrmSlayerZ are new to music but they are quickly making up for lost time. After starting just six months ago the group has already produced a full length LP with a single which has already reached thousands of fans worldwide.

“A Story You Can Change” is the debut album from Chapterz, released worldwide to all major streaming services on April 14, 2021. The eleven track record finds the young musicians experimenting with different genres and subgenres of Hip-hop, Pop and Rock. Citing the inspiration of artists as diverse as NF, Witt Lowry and Dr. Dre; with equal parts comedy and drama the rappers make music as catharsis.

We were inspired by our need to write because it helps our mental state. Making music is a therapy tool for us.

The album opens with the lighthearted and conversational freestyle intro, “Welcome to the Album.” From there the group drops the hard Rap “Hazmatic.” With the track they introduce a Trap and Lo-fi hybrid sound which becomes a defining theme on subsequent songs like; “Cake Beatz,” “See” and “Gucci Jeans.”

Elsewhere on the record the trio inches their sound into Rock and Pop territory. For example, tracks like “Remember” and the emerging hit “Better Version” feature melodic Indie Rock choruses and deeply personal Emo Rap verses. Later on the album, “Pieces of April” and “Saving Grace” are a pair of lo-fi Indie-Folk/Dark-Pop songs featuring Jason Cross on guitar. Each track combines a 90’s acoustic grunge sound with a more modern Emo lyrical style.

Throughout the album HazMatt775, Johnny Battle and WyrmSlayerZ employ comedy to lighten the weight of their message. Tracks like “Hipster Freestyle” and “Gucci Jeans” take tongue-in-cheek aim at everything from Kombucha to Mumble Rap and Nutella. The three friends are also clearly having a good time during the frequent lighthearted banter between tracks.
