Du’Elli is an emerging Hip-hop artist and active duty United States Marine. Originally from Tennessee and now stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, he’s doing double duty serving his country and serving up mellow Hip-hop jams. The rapper made his debut last year with a series of standalone singles which introduced an emcee who bypasses the materialism and violence of his peers for a message this is equal parts sex, positivity and comedy.
“Time For Recess” is the debut EP from Du’Elli, released worldwide to all major streaming services on April 7, 2021. On the five song record the rapper further defines his unique vibe of sexy slow jams and Emo rap confessionals. He finds inspiration from across the musical spectrum to create a soulful and mellow groove.
“Emotions, Pt 2” opens the record with a cool mix of 70’s style classic Pop and Soul instrumentation. Lush orchestral strings and a little bit of flute ride on a mellow Trap beat. Meanwhile Du’Elli rhymes about sex and sexuality. The melodic rap and smooth piano ballad Trap of “Tennisee” follows. The singer delivers a heartfelt love song/Emo-rap in honor of his girl. The title is a bit of clever word-play on the theme, “She’s the only ten I see.”
The track “Never Been a Waiter” rides a smooth 60’s Soul groove as Du’Elli drops a fun, funny narrative with plenty of old-school Hip-hop posturing and a cool Boom bap beat. “Sea Freak” is a chill and sexy slow jam with an X-rated and graphic recount of a night of loving. The record ends on “Sky Ain’t My Limit,” a hard rap all about the rapper’s dedication to the grind. With a smooth flow, clever rhymes and soulful groove the track is a perfect summary of the Du’Elli vibe.
