Justus Young is a singer, songwriter, guitarist and jiu jitsu brown belt from Sacramento, California. Although he has been making music since he was just 12, only recently did the 24 year-old decided to go public with his songs. He made his debut in 2020 with the 7 song album “World-Class Dreamer.” That record introduced us to a skilled writer and guitarist with a sound inspired by legends from the 70’s to the present day.
“Trouble on My Mind” is the opening track on Justus Young’s “World Class Dreamer.” The upbeat rocker pairs an overdriven Les Paul crunch with the memorable melody and clever wordplay of a talented songwriter. With a curled-lip cool vocal delivery that is equal parts Kings of Leon and Elvis Costello, Justus tells a familiar tale of love winning out over reason as he falls for someone who he maybe shouldn’t.
The studio band consists of Justus on guitar and vocals, Mark Savale on drums, and Jeff Leece on bass. The trio are in lock-step through the high-energy and catchy Alt-Rocker. Among others, Justus lists Slash as an inspiration. We definitely hear the GnR influence in the song’s ripping guitar solo. It’s a great tune from an equally impressive debut.
