Rune Will is the professional name of singer, songwriter, rapper and label owner Runeld Rasean Lovell Williams. Through his Milwaukee-based production company Beat Council, he and his team create music, film, clothing, merchandise and graphic design. We first heard from Rune in February of this year upon the release of his single and video “Blood on the Leaves.” That song was a powerful commentary on the state of the nation in 2020. The track used the Billie Holiday classic “Strange Fruit” as the backdrop for our current crisis of police violence against young black men and women.
“Night Cap” is the latest single from Rune Will, released worldwide to all major streaming platforms on April 29, 2021. This time the rapper is cooling it down a bit for a smooth Hip-hop/R&B slow jam. Riding on the mellow groove of an organic instrumental track, Rune and guest vocalist Obadiah sing and rhyme about a laid back evening of chilling with his lady. A jazzy saxophone moans in the distance as the drums, bass, guitar and keys lay down a relaxed and sexy groove.
After a tumultuous year of epic proportions, the song is like a breath of fresh air. The music flows in like midnight breeze in the summertime. Meanwhile the singer delivers a cool melodic rap about a romantic night for two. Throughout the track Rune sings and raps with equal skill. It’s a great song for kicking back with a cool drink and forgetting the troubles of the world for a while.
