Pinkfiz is the professional name of 18 year-old singer/songwriter Izzy Martin. A native of the city of Peterborough in the United Kingdom, the multi-instrumentalist writes, records and produces all of her own material.
Like musicians around the world, Pinkfiz found herself with an abundance of free time during the multiple pandemic lockdowns of the past year. She used that time to launch her solo music career. The artist released her debut single “The Birthday Song” in 2020. Since then she has released three more singles, each reaching a wider audience and expanding upon her adventurous, multi-genre experimental style. Recent singles “Your Girl” and “Did I Ask?” connected with thousands across the globe.
“Pleaser” is the latest single from Pinkfiz, released worldwide to all major streaming platforms on April 23, 2021. On the track the singer mixes a modern Lo-fi Indie-Rock vibe with a healthy dose of 90’s grunge. With a loose Pop/Punk/Garage sound that brings to mind legendary Alt-Rockers like PJ Harvey and Liz Phair, Pinkfiz delivers a thoughtful take on the unhealthy desire to be a people pleaser.

7 Questions with Pinkfiz
Where are you from?
I am from Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.
How long have you been making music?
I’ve been writing songs since I was around 13 years old. I only started properly getting into my solo stuff around a year ago.
Who are the musicians involved in your project?
In my solo project it is usually just me but on this song I had Chester Sturman play drums for me and he did such a great job. I was so excited to have real drums on my track for the first time.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
I’m very influenced by Joan Jett, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, Nova Twins and Beach Bunny. I listened to them a lot creating this song.
What is your greatest non-musical influence?
Nature and drag queens. When my head is overloading with thoughts I like to take a walk and clear my head. Taking my dog on a walk is one of my ways of calming my thoughts down and grounding myself. But I’m also very inspired by drag queens, I’m a huge fan of the show RuPaul’s Drag Race and their art, performances and fashion are so beautiful and incredible to me I love watching the show and I wish there was a bigger drag scene in Peterborough so I could watch more live shows.
What inspired you to create this project?
I wrote this song because I realised how much I camouflage myself when I’m around other people. I feel like there’s this pressure to be what other people want and I especially felt that when I was younger and it’s something I really regret. Now when I see these people I know they have a completely different impression of me compared to who I actually am.
I also feel a lot of times I want to be someone else rather than myself which is a really horrible feeling so I try and mask myself by trying to be the person I want to be. It often makes me really miserable and sad so I wrote this song to deal with that and as a letter to myself that I don’t need to be anyone else.
What are your plans for the future (musically)?
I am releasing my first EP under the artist Pinkfiz which is titled “The World Of Pinkfiz” on May 21st! I am also hoping to do some live gigs in the future.
