Iniko & The New Poetry Of Bitter Fruit

Iniko is a songwriter and producer from India with a stated mission to, “Decolonize mindsets through his art and activism.” The eclectic and versatile musician pursues that lofty goal with a unique and holistic view of music and art. His songs combine multiple genres into a distinctly new sound as his lyrics examine the ills of the world around him.

After defining and refining his style since the age of 13, Iniko made his professional debut in 2020 with a series of singles. Now he and his musical partner Vinayak Rajan have released their debut album “Consternation.” The seven track record is a Gen Z view of a broken world. Through personal stories, wildly creative production and poetic lyricism, the two take stock of the damage.

Consternation is all about the dismay of the unexpected pandemic with all that is going around in the world.

“Bitter Fruit” is the current single from “Consternation.” The track is an excellent example of the artists’ multi-genre style. The track is built around a classical guitar and harpsichord chord progression married to a Trap beat with a Latin groove. It is a wild mix, and it works. Meanwhile the singer delivers a melancholy torch song with smooth Jazz phrasing and smart, poetic lines like, “Without her, even the sweetest fruits are bitter.”
