Nate Conn is a singer, songwriter and producer from Nashville, Tennessee. He makes his solo debut in 2021 with a unique, multi-genre sound and an open, honest and vulnerable writing style. Mixing an Indie aesthetic with Hip-hop beats, Conn creates dark and deeply personal music with a melancholy soul.
“87%” is the debut EP from Nate Conn, released worldwide to all major streaming services on May 5, 2021. The five song collection finds the singer ruminating on the subjects of mental health, addiction and love. As a singer/rapper his style lands somewhere between the low classic Alt-Rock goth of artists like Peter Murphy and Nick Cave and bluesy Hip-hop of Everlast.
The songs on “87%” represent a series of stream-of-consciousness meditations on bad habits, bad behavior and bad outcomes. This is the sound of living with addiction and suffering its consequences. Any former addict will recognize the odd combination of selfishness and self-loathing that accompanies the disease. From the hypnotic slacker poetry of “QP” to the failed relationship of “Dialtone,” Nate delivers a brutally honest confessional.
Musically, each track features some combination of Lo-fi Hip-hop and guitar. “Sprite” mixes things up with some accordion sounds and classic West Coast, Dr Dre/P-Funk analog synths. “Lingo” is a cool mix of Indie-Folk guitar, a Trap beat and a swirl of drug culture jargon. The record ends on its most experimental track “ringtone” which sums up the theme perfectly with the line, “I just wanna get back to who I was when you met me.”
