Point Nemo – New Video “Edge Of The Night”

point nemo

Point Nemo is a modern Rock band from the upper reaches of Norway, north of the polar circle. Marcus Lien Gundersen (guitar/vocals), Adrian Van Wallinga (guitar/vocals), Espen Lieng (bass) and Andreas Ursin Hellebust (drums) first joined forces in 2016. Prior to the pandemic they maintained a steady gigging schedule. However, along the way they found time to hit the studio as well. Since dropping their first song “Downfall” in 2017 they have released a steady string of singles.

As was the case for musicians worldwide, the extended lockdowns of 2020 brought the band’s touring schedule to a halt. That downtime had a silver lining however in that it also allowed the group to complete their debut four-song EP “Cloud Seeding,” released worldwide to all major streaming services on May 18, 2021. Although COVID was the biggest story of the past year it was hardly the only event fostering a worldwide fear of the apocalypse. The members of Point Nemo used that universal anxiety as fodder for the songs on their new record.

“Edge of the Night” is the opening track from “Cloud Seeding” as well as the current single. Point Nemo credits both Classic Rock and modern Alternative bands as inspiration for their sound, with a list that includes everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Muse. We hear the influence of the latter through the verse of the new single. The song rolls on a mid-tempo groove marked by a powerful and airtight rhythm section.

The guitars deliver a heavy but melodic chord progression as Gundersen sings an intense narrative of shared angst. The band flexes their Prog Rock muscles in the bridge as the tune takes a heavy downtempo turn. They bangs out a bit of Hard Rock drama featuring excellent playing from all four members including some really nice guitar soloing. That cinematic sound continues through to the end of the track.
