Kody Reeder is a Kansas City-based singer/songwriter making his debut in 2021 with the emotionally powerful and psychologically complicated “Anxiety EP.” Scheduled to drop worldwide on July 9, 2021 the record is a collection of deeply personal songs that dive deeply into the difficult realities faced by those living with mental illness. As people across the globe continue to try and crawl out from the ashes of a disastrous year, it’s a safe bet that Kody’s relatable audience is growing daily.
Releasing this EP has been therapy for me. I can only hope someone else finds peace in listening to it.
Kody Reeder
The song “Anxiety” is the lead single and title track from the forthcoming EP. The track opens with a clean and melodic electric guitar rhythmically picking an open chord progression. Soon Reeder enters the mix with a smooth Alternative Rock tenor that brings to mind Death Cab For Cutie’s Ben Gibbard. Through the first few stanzas the guitar remains Kody’s only accompaniment as he delivers a painful and honest account of, “living with the monsters in my mind.”
As the song progresses the ensemble expands to include a rolling percussive rhythm, lush synths and strings. It is a beautiful and cinematic sound. At the heart of it all is Kody Reeder who is somehow able to simultaneously deliver an infectiously catchy melody with a heartbreaking tale of confusion and self loathing. He does so without either element losing any of its power. This is smart, soulful and brutally honest songwriting delivered in a masterful Alt-Pop production.
