Jake Anthonyx is the professional name of 21 year-old singer and songwriter Jacob Montalvo. He has been writing, recording and releasing music under various stage names since he was just 12 years-old. His father is a former record producer, so Jake was exposed to music at a very young age.
Montalvo’s early work was mostly Rap. As he got older his interests grew more toward Rock & Roll, which he gradually introduced into his sound. Now he has cast aside all previous personas in favor of a fresh start in 2021. With a brand new name and brand new music, Jake Anthonyx makes whatever he is feeling at the moment and stays away from labels.
“Can’t Come Down!” is the debut single from Jake Anthonyx and the first of three he has released so far this year. Produced by Andrew Toto, the track is an angsty monologue about being a little too high, set to an upbeat Lo-fi groove. As the beat drives the tune forward, a bit of psychedelic noise guitar creates a cool mood. Meanwhile Jake delivers the verse with a flow that lands somewhere between Indie Rock and Emo Rap. In the chorus the track cuts to a smooth and catchy retro Indie Pop vibe.
