The Impersonators – Scarlett Hell

The Impersonators are a Finnish duo of songwriters. Tom Tikka, formerly of the major label band Carmen Gray, joined forces with lyricist Antti Autio to form the new group from the ashes of his last. With an eye toward Pop and Rock traditions of decades past, the two write modern guitar-based Alt-Pop with an emphasis on witty lyrics and memorable Pop melodies.

Over the past five years the band has released a steady string of singles and EPs. Now in 2021 they deliver their debut full length album. “Life of Grant” is the brand new eleven track record from The Impersonators, released worldwide to all major streaming services on March 26, 2021. “Scarlett Hell” is the latest single from the new album and it showcases band’s songwriting skills and excellent musicianship as well as some creative production by Janne Saksa.

The song opens with a mellow groove. Tom Tikka sings a cryptic tale of drugs and love over the retro 60’s psychedelic vibes of conga drums and a Wah-wah guitar. The chorus opens up to an infectiously catchy Jazz/Pop hook. It’s a timeless feel that would sound as comfortable on an AM radio in the 1970s as on a playlist of modern Indie Rock. The song gets its most psychedelic in the bridge with a nice Acid Rock guitar solo. By the end of the track the whole mix has blown wide open with horns, guitars and layers of vocal harmony.
