Diamond J is an emerging Hip-hop/R&B artist currently based in Kansas City, Missouri. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, the up and coming rapper has been making music since she was just 13 years-old. She dropped a handful of tracks to SoundCloud early on. However her professional career really began in 2016 when the LGBT artist came out publicly in her song “The Upgrade.” That track launched a steady string of singles, including three released so far in 2021.
“Love You” is the latest single from Diamond J, released worldwide to all major streaming services on June 4, 2021. The song is a heartfelt love song dedicated to the singer’s girl. Musically the track has a real slow jam vibe. Chill electric piano chords meet deep bass tones and a downtempo Hip-hop beat.
Diamond J matches the R&B groove by flowing easily between a melodic rap in the verse and soulful singing in the chorus. It’s a simple, honest and sweet sentiment as she sings, “I just wanna love you, girl.” Guest rapper Coo Da Kidd drops a hard, chopping rap in the bridge to give the song a little bit of an edge. It’s a nice counterpoint to Diamond J’s smooth flow.
