Taste Of Chicano – Weed, Love & Hip-Hop From Chicago

taste of chicano

Taste of Chicano is a Hip-hop music duo comprised of two brothers, born and raised on the Southside of Chicago. For the past five years, TOC has been dropping socially conscious and cannabis-friendly jams. Composing and producing their own music, they make chill downtempo Hip-hop music to speak for those who may not be able to do so on their own.

We represent the voiceless, the fallen and those hanging on tight.

Taste of Chicano

Throughout their tenure, Taste of Chicano has developed a unique sound.  Their diverse list of influences includes artists like 2pac, Lil Rob, Nas, Biggie, Big L and Cypress Hill. As a result, their own music incorporates elements of both East and West Coast Hip-hop. They mix lo-fi grooves with breakbeats, deep bass tones and psychedelic keys.

Within that framework they introduce other musical styles, from the psychedelic Rock organ of 2018’s “Purple Clouds” to the Dr. Dre/P-Funk style synths on tunes like 2020’s “Chicano Blues.” They use keys and vocal harmonies to create wide open spaces in which their songs can flow. With a creative and adventurous approach to recording the group uses backward tracks and unexpected breakbeats on songs like “Get By to Get High” and “Since a Kid.”

“Devilish” is the most recent single from Taste of Chicano, released worldwide to all major streaming services on May 7, 2021. On the track TOC pairs a lo-fi Trap beat with subterranean bass and a swirl of ambient keys and overlapping arpeggios. Lyrically the song deals with the reality of life for those less privileged, and the difficulty of rising above that status in our modern society.

The musical mission of Taste of Chicano is, “to give a taste of that Chicano flavor to everybody worldwide.” With their new single and five years of cool stoner jams, they are well on their way to doing so. Check out “Devilish” below. You can also hear the song on the Deep Indie Beat playlist. Follow the links below to connect with TOC.
