Ultraviolence is the professional name of Los Angeles based musical duo Dead and BB. They made their debut last year and have since dropped a steady string of seven singles. With each new release they have reached a wider audience with tens of thousands of listeners on multiple platforms.
“Maniac” is the latest single and video by “Ultraviolence,” released worldwide to all major streaming services on June 18, 2021. Produced by Garret Lodge, the record is a catchy and upbeat tune about some seriously dark subject matter. Over a nice Indie Pop guitar riff set to a Trap beat and Deep synth bass, BB and Dead rap and sing about being terrible people. They run through a series of personality flaws, and a touch of depression in their tale.
However, thanks to their comedic delivery and Lodge’s excellent production it is clear that this tale of narcissism and self deprecation is all in good fun. In the song’s video they act out the ‘self-loathing as comedy’ theme in a hilarious short film that takes them from defeating a child on the tennis court, to the recording studio and eventually to a psychedelic hallucination that transports them to a desert on the other side of the world. Throughout their adventures, they remain awful. It’s a fun and funny film directed by Jeremy Basset.
