Nicole Mariee is a Dallas-based singer, songwriter and composer. The Texas native grew up singing in church and playing piano at home. As she got older she went on to receive classical training in music school. Making her professional debut in 2017 with the single “Run Away,” she has continued to deliver a steady series of genre-defying singles and EPs.
A familiar face in Dallas’ legendary music scene, before the pandemic Nicole Mariee played regularly at high profile clubs like the House of Blues, the Regal Room, Lizard Lounge, and Louie Louie’s Piano Bar. She even founded her own indie record label, Underground Lyfe Records. She has now emerged from a year of lockdown with a whole new arsenal of songs. In isolation she found the freedom to break free of the restraints of ‘traditional’ compositional structures and forms. She decided to break the rules.

“breaking the rules” is the latest single from Nicole Mariee, released worldwide to all major streaming services on June 25, 2021. The track finds the singer and her piano backed by real, live Jazz bass and drums. The trio kicks out a mellow but funky groove as Nicole sings of the freedom found between the keys. The band is excellent, with some particularly notable bass playing. Nicole Mariee delivers her jazzy declaration of musical independence with a soulful tone and sophisticated phrasing.
