Droze – 8 Questions & A New House Jam

Droze is a singer/songwriter with a deep love for all things Dance and R&B. Growing up, he cut his teeth as listening to classic Pop, R&B and Soul artists. During a transient childhood he and his family split their time between New York and Miami. He found solace and escape in the soulful sounds and sweet harmonies of legendary 90’s artists like SWV, Total, Brownstone and Brandy. A multi-talented multi-instrumentalist, Droze received formal classical training on numerous instruments. However, in his heart he has always been a singer.

Since making his professional debut in 2016 with the “The Droze Project,” the singer has released a steady string of singles, EPs and collaborations. After remaining silent through most of last year, Droze is back with his first song of 2021. “Never Thought” is the latest single from Droze, released worldwide to all major streaming services on June 4, 2021. Once again the singer has created a rich mix of modern EDM vibes and classic Soul.

“Never Thought” opens on a mellow dance beat. Droze enters the mix with a Depeche Mode-style vocal that hints at the singer’s 80’s roots. Lyrically the song starts with a Dark Pop premise, referencing a difficult romantic split. However, ultimately the track has a positive message of rebirth and self-reliance as the singer comes to the realization that he is better off on his own. As the track progresses, that subdued beat builds into a classic House groove. It’s a perfect summertime club jam with the right balance of energy and chill.

8 Questions with Droze

Droze - 8 Questions & A New House Jam 1

Where are you from?

My background is Puerto Rican and Colombian, but I consider myself a Miami-boy because this city has had the biggest influence on who I am. My family bounced around from NY to Florida until we finally settled in Miami.

How long have you been making music?

I’ve been singing since I was about 8. I joined the chorus club in elementary school and I haven’t stopped singing since. I can remember writing my own songs as far back as 10 years old. Professionally as a downloadable/streamable artist, it’s been 5 amazing years.

Who are the musicians involved in your project?

That’s quite a list; there are so many remixers/djs/producers/etc. I would say my core team is 3 people that include Michael M and Guiseppe D, but I’ve had the good fortune to link up with a ton of names across all the music I’ve put out.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

My biggest influences are the R&B groups from the 90s. There’s something about those harmonies and soulful sounds that speak directly to my heart.

What is your greatest non-musical influence?

Non-Musical influences have been plentiful in my life but I would definitely say the women in my family; my grandmother who moved us around and made so many sacrifices to keep our family afloat, my mother who’s hardships never seemed to have dimmed her light, my aunt who always looked out for me and treated me like her own. I am really lucky to be surrounded by strong independent women.

What inspired you to create this project?

The Droze Project itself was fueled by a desire to finally get my name out there. The current project though, “Never Thought ” drew its inspiration from a really rough breakup and the challenges to survive. The process itself of healing is my current vibe and I can say I’m vibrating at an all time high these days.

What are your plans for the future (musically)?

I’m already writing lyrics for music I haven’t even heard. Essentially I’d like to put together another album and tell some stories that I think people will draw some strength from… and maybe even dance to. I like the idea of strong deep lyrics put to dance music.

Is there anything else you would like to say?

I never thought that I would be on iTunes, let alone have been blessed enough to be on Billboard’s Hot 100 and Top 30! For anyone who is listening I’m going to tell them now, and continue to tell them, that nothing is impossible and your limitations are only in your head. Get up, get dressed, say yes to opportunities even when you don’t want to. I guarantee you’ll figure it out. And also, thank you for taking the time to learn a bit about DROZE. I appreciate every single reader/listener/heckler. Thank you all, mi gente!
