Gustavo Baião’s Bossa Nova Love Letter To Rio

Gustavo Baião

Gustavo Baião is a singer/songwriter from Teresina, Brazil. Since his debut over twenty years ago, he has released a steady string of singles and EPs and albums. In that time the talented artist has reached hundreds of thousands of fans worldwide with his smooth Brazilian Jazz and Bossa Nova originals. “Só Vim Matar a Saudade” (I just came to miss you) is the latest single from Gustavo Baião, released worldwide to all major streaming services on June 15, 2021.

The song is a classic Bossa Nova guitar crooner in the vein of Antônio Carlos Jobim. On the track the singer is joined by an ensemble featuring some of Brazil’s top musicians. The Brazilian Jazz quartet delivers a letter-perfect Bossa Nova groove. As Kiko Freitas (drums), Ney Conceicao (bass), Iamat Assiere (electric piano) and legendary guitarist Nelson Faria lay down a smooth foundation, Gustavo Baião sings his ode to the beauty of Brazil’s famed city of Rio de Janeiro in a velvet Jazz/Pop tenor. It is a gorgeous performance by all, with a particularly tasty guitar solo from Faria.

I created this project because of the song “Rio”, an instrumental theme by Nelson Faria. It means the sun, the beaches, the people lived in Rio, so Nelson and I put the lyrics!
