Matt Clark is a singer/songwriter from Havre De Grace, Maryland. The 20 year-old artist made quite a splash with his 2020 debut single “Hold You Tight.” That melancholy piano ballad introduced listeners to a thoughtful songwriter with a soulful voice. The track was a hit and has reached hundreds of thousands of listeners since its release. In the subsequent months the prolific creator has dropped 10 more singles. With each new release he introduces another facet of his talent, mixing Pop, R&B, Hip-hop and Rock vibes into his own unique sound.
“Through” is the latest record from Matt Clark, released worldwide to all major streaming services on April 30, 2021. This time the singer has teamed up with fellow independent songwriter, Clay Mullen for a three song EP of emotional goodbyes and hopeful beginnings. The record takes us through the phases of first losing and then finding love. The opening track “Lost Love” is a melancholy relationship post mortem marked by Matt’s deeply soulful vocal and stark guitar chords. The song rolls on a slow and low minor-key piano and bass groove with a cool, minimalist Trip-hop style beat.
The title track follows and finds the singer in a slightly better mindset after losing love in the opening song. Over an upbeat guitar/bass track set to a mellow Trap beat, he sings “I’ll get through this time.” Clark and Mullen close the record on an even brighter note with a song celebrating a brand new romance. With all of the optimism of young love, Clark sings “You’ll be the girl in my front seat. And you’ll be everything that I need.” The bluesy guitar riffs of the first two tracks have been replaced by an uplifting Pop groove featuring a mix of electronic and analog instrumentation.
