Jaye Reaves is composer, producer, songwriter and rapper based in Los Angeles, California. A Virginia native, Jaye moved to the West Coast 6 years ago to pursue a new life. Although his early career was in contracts and real estate, the lifelong musician eventually found that his real route to happiness was through his art. The multi-instrumentalist Electronic musician fuses multiple musical genres and styles into a unique and fluid sound.

“The Come Up” is the debut EP from Jaye Reaves, released worldwide to all major streaming services on July 2, 2021. The six song collection is an autobiographical account of the artist’s geographical and philosophical journey from East to West and from following a paycheck to following his dreams. Through uplifting instrumentals and deeply personal lyrical narratives he tells the tale of his own ‘come up.’

My EP and my music in general are here to inspire people to do what they want in life. It’s never too late to switch careers and learn a new craft. I want to show you that it’s possible.

The record opens with “L.A. Fusion,” a cinematic piece that introduces Jaye Reaves’ distinct and creative vibe. With a mix of classic Synthwave ambient keys and lo-fi Hip-hop beats he combines Asian and Jazz melodic themes to represent the new multicultural world he experienced upon arriving in LA. “The Root ” follows with an examination of the confusion of love in its early days. Here and elsewhere on the record Jaye is joined by his wife Amoreé. He delivers a personal, confessional rap as she counters with a soulful melodic vocal.

“Don’t Settle” continues the timeline of his journey with an inspirational instrumental. Ambient synths meet his bass guitar for a cool Pop/Jazz fusion mood. Throughout the record, Jaye Reaves mixes organic and electronic sounds to create his beautifully lush soundscapes. Guitars, keys, horns and strings flow together in a rich tapestry of sound. “Time Watch” and “The Opening” blend that vibe with revelatory lyrics as we continue on the young man’s journey and his acceptance of a life in the arts. Once again, Amoreé lends her voice to the mix. As his wife, her excellent performance also contributes a personal, intimate authenticity to the story.

The record closes with the title track, a moving instrumental intended as a celebration of the artist’s newfound purpose in a new life. Jaye uses all of the tools in his arsenal to paint a beautiful scene for the closing credits. The movie comes to a close with a promise of a brand new future and leaves us looking forward optimistically toward the sequel.
