Yui Stonewell’s New Pop Nugget “Not So Hard”

yui stonewell

Yui Stonewell is an Indie Pop singer/songwriter based in Tokyo, Japan. She and her older brother Tak work as a songwriting and production team. In 2020 the duo began releasing a steady string of singles and have connected with fans around the globe with their genre-bending sound and personal lyrics.

“Not So Hard” is the latest single from Yui Stonewell, released worldwide to all major streaming services on July 7, 2021. Once again the singer has delivered an infectiously catchy Pop nugget with a refreshing disregard for the confines of musical genres and decades. The upbeat tune mixes Indie Rock instrumentation with retro Pop melodies and even a touch of Trap.

As the song rolls on a funky guitar groove, Yui Stonewell offers an education to her oblivious ex-boyfriend. She lets him know how easy it would have been to keep her, if only he had tried. She sings, “Just be a little bit nice to me, it’s not so hard.” Her lyrics are smart, simple and universally relatable. That is by design. Yui views her music as a conduit to make real connections with other human beings.

I sing to listen to my emotions. And I connect with my audience through shared experiences – translated in music
