LiBS (Laughing in Bad Situations) is a new Indie Pop artist making his debut in 2021. Although he is just now releasing his first song, the artist has been preparing this launch for years. Growing up in the small Northeastern Illinois city of Zion, LiBS started writing his own music at the age of 12. By the time he graduated from high school in 2010 he was ready to take his music seriously. However, life took him down a different path.
By 2012, LiBS had joined the Navy. After first being stationed in Virginia he landed in New Orleans in 2015. The next five years brought marriage and fatherhood. However, he continued to develop his sound throughout this time. Last year he was finally at a point in his life in which he could devote the necessary time and resources to his music. He built a studio and got to work.
“La La” is the debut single from LiBS, released worldwide to all major streaming services on July 12, 2021. The song is a breezy bit of Indie Pop with a cool Lo-fi groove and an infectious hook. A jazzy guitar and dreamy vocal harmonies introduce the tune. Each remains central to sound throughout the song. Soon a simple bass and drum beat drops and LiBS enters the mix with a sing-along escape fantasy.
He sings his wistful lead vocal wrapped in an immediately memorable, classic Pop melody. Amid this smooth mix of 70’s-style Jazz/Pop and modern Lo-fi Indie Rock, the singer delivers a relatable narrative about simply wanting to be alone for a while. He sums the sentiment up perfectly in the song’s catchy descending refrain as he sings, “Not today, please. Do not talk to me.”
