We first heard from Martin Wilhelmsson in August of last year. He had just released his three song EP, “Let it Be.” That record introduced us to a Stockholm, Sweden based singer with a sound that would feel right at home in the honky-tonk bars of the American South. With his bluesy acoustic guitar and soulful vocals, Martin creates an authentic Americana vibe.
That debut EP was a hit with listeners worldwide, introducing the singer to tens of thousands of fans across multiple platforms. Now Martin Wilhelmsson has returned with more acoustic Folk/Blues. This time he’s found inspiration in an unexpected source. His new single is a dramatically reimagined version of a song by Martin’s fellow Swedes, Disco superstars ABBA.
“Super Trouper” is the latest single from Martin Wilhelmsson, released worldwide to all major streaming services on June 25, 2021. The track is a cover of the 1980 ABBA hit about the sometimes lonely life of a musician on the road. The original version of the song masked its melancholy message with ABBA’s signature Pop sheen. However, in his version Martin embraces the lonely. With a sparse acoustic arrangement of guitar, mandolin and deep bass piano chords he delivers a heartbreaking tale of a musician hiding his loneliness in the glare of the spotlight.
