Doc Frost – New Music From The Lone Wolf

doc frost

Baltimore, Maryland’s Doc Frost has been creating since he was just 7 years old. He has worked as a rapper, singer, songwriter, actor and producer. In 2017 he made his professional solo debut with the album “Freak Show.” He followed in 2020 with the album “More to Live” and now with the new 10-song collection “Year of the Lone Wolf.”

It’s been a tough road for Doc Frost. His music reflects the challenges he has faced while coming up, as well as his resolve to survive and thrive. He raps and sings candidly about the loss of friends and family, the failings of love and the difficulty of simply trying to make ends meet in an unforgiving world.  This is music of catharsis and therapeutic self reflection. However he is also reaching out, seeking to connect with listeners on a personal level with an emphasis on shared experiences.

When I make music I want to hit a nerve just to let you know I went through what everybody else went through. I want to relate to the people.

Doc Frost

“Year of the Lone Wolf” is the latest album from Doc Frost. Released earlier this year, the record is an excellent introduction to his style and sound. Produced and performed entirely by the artist himself, the album is a deeply personal reflection on the challenges, setbacks and accomplishments of one young man trying to make his way in the world. From the harsh realities of songs like “Pain” and the wistful nostalgia of “Take Me Back” to the healing help of “My Side of The Story,” he deals with the real world difficulty of just being human in these trying times.

Musically, Doc Frost pairs classic 808 beats with a genre-bending songwriting style. Tracks like “So Good” and “My Favorite” mix Jazzy piano riffs with clever and romantic rhymes. He turns up the heat and dims the lights on the R&B infused slow jam “Moan” and the mellow Caribbean groove of “Love Ritual (Voodoo Love).” “Worth it” rides on a contemporary Pop mix of strings and keys as the rapper looks at the confusion and uncertainty of love. He navigates the many stylistic and thematic moods of the record with a smooth flow and expert technique, sliding easily between hard rap and smooth melodic vibes.

In addition to his new album, Doc Frost recently dropped a video for his 2020 hit “Paycheck to Paycheck.” It’s a fun flick but has a deeper message. The song chronicles a time in the singer’s past when he was just scraping by, making minimum wage at multiple jobs trying to get the bills paid. Its message connected with fans around the world last year as furloughs and layoffs were commonplace events during the pandemic.

“I made this song because I lived paycheck to paycheck and it was devastating. But I came out on top.” – Doc Frost
