Mindset is an emerging independent artist from Barrie, Ontario. The Canadian rapper, singer and songwriter has been making a name for himself in the world of Hip-hop since the release of his debut album “Pedestrian Funk” in 2016. Through the course of a dozen Boom bap and breakbeat grooves, that record introduced a talented young writer, singer and emcee with mad rap skills. The album quickly found fans online and in the Ontario scene.
Since the album’s release Mindset has been writing, recording and performing. He’s played some high-profile gigs with Hip-hop legends including Raekwon of the Wu Tang Clan and Black Sheep. And he’s been making music, releasing almost two dozen singles in that time. Almost all of that new music has come in just the past year, and the prolific rapper shows no signs of slowing down.
Hot on the heels of last month’s “Different Version,” “Outta My Head” is the latest single and video from Mindset, released worldwide to all major streaming services on August 6, 2021. The track opens on a chilled solo Jazz guitar. Its mellow chord progression will remain at the heart of the tune throughout. Soon a laid-back Trap beat drops and Mindset enters the mix singing the song’s smooth R&B vocal hook. From there, he and guest rapper Astin Clark alternate between that soulful chorus and a series of rapped verses about losing love and burying your sorrow at the bottom of a bottle. It’s a great sound with plenty of soul.
