Munk Duane Peers Through The Fisheye

munk duane

Regular readers of The Static Dive know Munk Duane well. The talented Bostonian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist producer has appeared on these pages twice before. A few months ago his singles “Sweet Tooth” and “Fanblade” introduced us to a multifaceted musician with a penchant for old-school Funk grooves and a keen ear for radio-ready Pop hooks. In addition to his solo work, from his own ‘Bad Stella Studios’ Munk composes music for major Film and TV productions.

“Fisheye” is the latest single from Munk Duane, released worldwide to all major streaming services on August 6, 2021. On the new track, Munk takes a turn away from the R&B grooves of his previous singles and delves into a more cinematic sound. “Fisheye ” features an earthy and percussive ensemble of organic and electronic instrumentation. The track opens on a rhythmic mix of percussive acoustic guitar and hand drums. That subdued mood permeates the track as layers of vocal and guitar melodies softly dance around the beat. Meanwhile the singer delivers a meditative, soft spoken examination of the masks we all present to one another as we try in vain to be ourselves.

“Fisheye” peels back the construct of the myopic facades we adopt in an attempt to present our best “selves”, which can obscure the truest depths of who we are in actuality when the lens inevitably widens.
