So, this weekend was interesting. If you happened to be paying attention you would have noticed a series of annoying technical errors followed by random and bizarre cosmetic changes on the site. None of this was intentional. Starting sometime Thursday night, the server which was hosting The Static Dive began having intermittent technical issues. By Friday they were much more frequent and it became clear that the hosting company was nowhere near a resolution. So, we moved our house.
I had to put on my IT hat for a couple of days. The were a lot database exports and imports, DNS updates and oodles of Gigabytes transferred via FTP. Finally, by Monday morning the site was back in top shape. Now in our new home we are bigger, better and faster than ever. I knew the upgrade would have to come eventually. I would have preferred a more controlled and scheduled migration but in the immortal words of Mick Jagger, “You can’t always get what you want but if you try sometimes, you get what you need.”
Anyway, thank you for your patience during this random series of speed bumps. In the coming weeks and months I plan to take full advantage of our newfound horsepower. Be on the lookout for more features and interactivity. In the meantime, please enjoy the upgrade while perusing all the wonderful independent music already here. And since I lifted their lyric for the title of this blog post… here is the 1983 classic “Our House” by the legendary Ska/Pop/New Wave band Madness.
