Greg Loftus’ Alt-Country Paradise Fantasy

greg loftus

Massachusetts native and sometime Austin transplant, Greg Loftus has spent the last 15 years telling stories. The Alt-Country singer/songwriter cut his teeth performing in the Boston and Providence Rhode Island clubs. Inspired by heroes of that scene like Deer Tick, Brown Bird, and Joe Fletcher and the Wrong Reasons, he eventually took his rootsy Americana vibe to its source. In 2011 he packed his bags and headed South to the musical mecca of Austin, Texas.

Greg Loftus spent the next six years gigging and writing in that city’s legendary music scene. He and his band Carpetbagger played venues big and small, from keg parties to the best known clubs. Throughout those years he kept writing and honing his skills, recording two full length albums along the way. By 2017 the long days and late nights of a gigging musician’s life finally wore him down. He headed back to Cape Cod and stepped away from the business of music for a couple years.

Then the pandemic happened. Like so many of us, Greg found himself with plenty of free time. His guitar came calling and new songs began to flow. While he worked on new material he dropped an album of previously unreleased tracks. Now in 2021 he is back on that horse. With his fourth album scheduled to be released on October 18, he is ready to dive back into the fray.

“When My Day Comes” is the brand new single from Greg Loftus, released worldwide to all major streaming services on August 13, 2021. The track is a bluesy bit of Americana, painting the imagined scene of the singer’s last day on Earth. A rootsy ensemble of guitar, bass, drums, piano and organ churns out a soulful honky-tonk groove. Meanwhile Greg lays out his Country carpe-diem philosophy. A smooth slide guitar and harmonica duo plays the song’s main melodic refrain, and Loftus delivers his tale in a world-wise Country twang. In the bridge he sets the scene of the perfect hippie-cowboy afterlife.

I’ll be fine in the morning light on some astral plane. Getting high with some friends of mine, wasting our lives away.
