Sweetergawd is an emerging Hip-hop artist from Irvington, New Jersey. The 22 year-old rapper made his debut in 2020 with the single “Ceilings.” Since then, the prolific artist has delivered a steady string of releases including four more singles, a video and now a full length album. He is a multifaceted talent who engineers and records his own music. He has also now begun to branch out into producing beats.
His self sufficient nature was born mostly out of necessity. Coming up, Sweetergawd had little support in his personal or professional life. Without a team backing him up, the emcee knew that he would have to take matters into his own hands. Determined to succeed on multiple fronts, while pursuing his passion in music he is also studying medicine as a full time college student. Both his difficult past and his independent nature are central themes in his music.
“Most Hated” is the brand new album from Sweetergawd, released worldwide to all major streaming services on August 20, 2021. The 8 song collection is an emotional ride. The record finds the rapper looking back on the road he has travelled so far. There he finds friends and foes alike. He delivers a tale of rising up from a troubled past, from poverty and gang violence to his newfound energy and positive motion.
Musically the album pairs downtempo Trap grooves with the cinematic sounds of classical piano, jazzy guitars and ambient Electronic Pop and R&B vibes. On tracks like “Moving,” “Had To” and “Anti-Social,” Sweetergawd tells of breaking out of bad scenes and moving on to more positive energies and greener pastures. He looks to his own shortcomings on songs like “Confessions,” a brutally honest retelling of his mistakes with a determination to rise up from that dark past to build a better life.
As a rapper, Sweetergawd delivers his narratives in his own distinctive melodic style. Mixing modern Emo rap with a classic freestyle flow, his lyrical rhymes alternative between smooth R&B vibes and hardcore rapid-fire rap. He steps back from the emotional material for a bit on “It’s Up and It’s Stuck.” Popular Alanta rapper Coca Vango joins Sweetergawd on the hardcore Trap banger.
