The Killing Tapes is a literary musical project from the songwriting duo of Marcus Crede and Peter Svensson. The two Swedish musicians launched the project last year after Marcus presented his concept and original song ideas to Peter. They began working on the tracks together and quickly realized that they had something special. They soon put together a production team and got to work. Over the course of the past few months The Killing Tapes have released a series of singles, building their debut album “Black” one track at a time.
The record will be a concept album, telling the first person narrative of a serial killer. The story mixes true historical events with personal and internal memories from a difficult time in Crede’s own life to paint a disturbing portrait of obsession and mental illness. The Static Dive has followed the project from the beginning. It has proven to be an emotionally difficult road for the band who have fought the personal and professional ramifications of immersing themselves into such a dark space. However, with the recent addition of producer/engineer Niels Nielsen they have a newfound energy.
“Dancing With The Devil In You” is the latest release from The Killing Tapes, released worldwide to all major streaming services on August 25, 2021. The track finds the band delving deeply into some dark Goth electronic vibes. The track’s expansive minor-key ambient synths and downtempo mood brings to mind the sound of early DarkWave legends like The Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees. An organic beat of acoustic drums and electric bass drive the track forward as Crede delivers his signature dark poetry in an emotive Alt-Rock tenor.
