Emlung is the professional name of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist producer, Mark Lungershausen. Educator by day and Indie-Pop songwriter by night, the upstate New York musician and family man makes his professional entry into the recording world as a solo artist in 2021 with the debut of his album “Ascent into Madness.”
Lungershasuen composed, performed, recorded and produced each of the ten tracks on the new album, released worldwide to all major streaming services on June 22, 2021. The ambitious record showcases Lungershausen’s broad artistic range and adventurous production style. The record opens with “A Meditation” and closes on “Heading into the Sun,” two avant-garde, abstract psychedelic compositions a-la The Beatles’ ‘Revolution 9.’ In between those two bookends he fills the pages with experimental electronic music and infectiously catchy Alternative Jazz/Pop.
Falling firmly into the latter category is the current single from “Ascent into Madness.” “Cinnamon Eyes” is a dreamy, lo-fi Indie-Pop love song. On the track Emlung combines Ben Folds-esque Pop hooks and Jazz phrasings with the edgy Alternative vibe and the male/female call/response vocals of The Pixies. As the song progresses the sound builds to an emotional bridge featuring cinematic strings and then rolls out on a bit of jazzy piano a-la Joe Jackson.
