Boy Blu is a brand new cross-Atlantic musical collaboration featuring American singer-songwriter, guitarist and drummer Lisa Blu and Irish singer-songwriter, producer, and renowned guitarist, Sean O’Connor. The two veteran musicians joined forces after Lisa approached Sean to play guitar on her new tracks. After playing a supporting role for decades in numerous bands, the multi-instrumentalist Blu took center stage recently to launch a solo career. However, the project soon became a duo after she and the Irish guitarist found an immediate chemistry.
Sean O’Connor has been a well known musician in his home country ever since the early 1980’s when his band The Lookalikes reigned as one of the top acts in Dublin’s legendary music scene. Over the years he has worked on both sides of the Atlantic as a solo artist and a band leader. He has shared the stage and studio with legends of the Rock & Roll world. In Boy Blu, Lisa and Sean collaborate remotely. Each records her/his parts in their respective studio and shares them with the other digitally. Since their debut earlier this year the duo has released four singles, each exploring the boundaries of modern Pop and Rock genres.
“Sign Of The Times” is the latest single from Boy Blu, released worldwide to all major streaming services on August 20, 2021. The track is a cover of the Harry Styles hit from his eponymous 2017 solo debut. For their take, Boy Blu delivers the tune with a mellow, psychedelic Bowie-meets-Americana vibe. O’Connor’s slide guitar joins a slow march of quarter-note piano chords to open the tune. Lisa enters the mix with a soft and vulnerable lead vocal that brings to mind the great Lucinda Williams, but without the twang. As the track progresses the arrangement grows to a cinematic climax of drums, synths and a rocking lead guitar as the two singers duet on this melancholy escape fantasy.
