Méabh Stanford’s Literary Tales of Life & Love

  • by
Méabh Stanford

Méabh Stanford is a singer/songwriter from Ocean City, New Jersey with a sound that marries classic literature with modern Indie sensibilities. At just 16 years-old she is already a veteran performer with five years of stage experience. As a writer she blends fantasy with reality by immersing herself in classic fiction and viewing the drama through a modern lens, weaving her personal experiences into well known tales. As a result the familiar stories are given new life as seen through the eyes of a talented ingénue.

“make it be me” is the debut EP from Méabh Stanford, released worldwide to all major streaming services on July 23, 2021. The six song collection was produced by the Grammy-nominated Saint Luke (Luke Witherspoon III) of Atlantic City. Recorded just a month before its release, the record finds the young singer supported by an organic arrangement of acoustic guitar and piano with the occasional inclusion of bass, drums and strings. It is a warm and intimate sound that allows for an immediate connection between the storyteller and her audience. Méabh delivers her tales with skill and confidence that belie her young age.

The record moves through scenarios set in cinema and print, breathing new life into familiar tales. From the descriptively titled “Keira Knightley as Anna Karenina” to the two part Greek mythology inspired “oh, Hyacinth, parts 1 and 2,” Méabh Stanford assumes the personas of well known characters and in turn transforms their stories into relatable modern parables. Among others, Méabh lists Taylor Swift and Phoebe Bridgers as inspiration. We can hear the influence of the former on heartbreakers like ‘The Kite Runner’ inspired “i still remember,” and the latter on the Americana-tinged Indie-Pop of the ‘Romeo & Juliet’ saga “i can still hope” and the antiwar ‘Slaughterhouse Five’ themed “glory days.”

The new EP “make it be me” by Méabh Stanford is an impressive debut from a singer/songwriter with talent and depth beyond her years. Listen to “make it be me” in its entirety below.
