C.H.A.M.P (Baby Debo) Drops The New YOLO

C.H.A.M.P (aka Baby Debo) is the professional name of fast rising Hip-hop artist Nathaniel Glen Miller Jr. The Mesquite, Texas native is relatively new to the rap game, but he hit the ground running. Now based in Dallas, the 21 year-old has made big waves in a short time. After making his debut earlier this year with the single “Win” the prolific rapper released two EPs.

His most recent record “YOLO” dropped worldwide on July 23, 2021 to all major streaming services. The EP’s first single and video “Baby Debo” is a hit across multiple platforms with over 20K streams on YouTube alone. The track rolls on a funky saxophone riff and laid-back Trap beat. Meanwhile, C.H.A.M.P delivers a series of clever and funny rhymes about his many exploits with the fairer sex. It’s a fun and light hearted jam. However, there is a deeper, more serious side to the rapper’s story as well.

The name C.H.A.M.P is an acronym for “change happens at my pace.” The term has multiple meanings to the artist who, despite his young age, has seen more than his share of hardship. In high school he was a star running back and received numerous college scholarships. However his plans changed dramatically when tragically, two weeks after walking on campus, he was shot. The resulting injuries ended his football career before it began. Music became his new challenge to conquer.

“YOLO” is often a term associated with partying, but on the EP’s title track Miller takes it to a much deeper meaning as he rhymes about living a life of substance and looks back on his struggles so far. That troubled history is a theme that returns elsewhere on the record. For instance, the closing track “PTSD” is a melodic rap about the psychological downside of street life. The record has plenty of fun too, as on “Baby Debo” and the sexy slow jam “Nights Like These.” C.H.A.M.P flexes some old-school Hip-hop muscles on “Beeper Freestyle” and lays down a laid-back but deadly serious drill rap on “With the Shits.”

The new EP “YOLO” is an impressive outing from an artist with seasoned skills that belie his status as a newcomer. Check out the “Baby Debo” video below.
