Growing up in Detroit, JonPaul Wallace began singing and playing piano at a young age. In his teens he ventured into the world of songwriting. And then at 17 he went viral. The young singer performed his own version of Lukas Graham’s “7 years” at his High School graduation. Somebody video taped it, and 20 million views later JonPaul Wallace was internet famous.

In the years since, he attended and graduated college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance & Marketing. He has also maintained the early moment of his music career with a steady string of successful single releases. He regularly performs live at various venues around his home state of Michigan. And now he has a brand new record.

On August 24, 2021 JonPaul Wallace released his eponymous debut EP. The five song collection introduces an artist with a flare for 80’s R&B, 70’s Disco and modern Pop with a twist of Funk. The record opens with “Here We Go,” a Michael Jackson-esque Pop/Soul nugget in the verse with a fist-pumping hook and a nice Rock & Roll piano vamp in the chorus. Here and on the second track, “I Am Built To Win” he delivers a confident swagger with a soulful Pop style and a hint of early Prince funk.

On “Say No More,” the singer lights up the mirror ball for a cool bit of Disco House / Pop. Each song on the record features an impressive vocal arrangement. This is nowhere more true than on “Speechless.” The sexy slow jam employs remarkable multi-part harmonies and complex melodic transitions over a smooth downtempo groove. The record ends with another dose of disco-era soul on “Underlying Feeling,” a song with some great Earth Wind & Fire vibes.

JonPaul Wallace’s debut EP is a great listen for any fan of upbeat, soulful and funky Pop music. Check it out below, or listen on your favorite streaming service.
