“Always Been You” is the debut single from Jay Mezla, released worldwide to all major streaming services on August 21, 2021. With the song Jay introduces us to their unique sound that combines the DIY aesthetic of modern Lo-fi Indie Pop and 1920’s old-timey radio. The song opens on a ukulele strumming the simple chord progression of the verse. Soon Jay enters the mix, singing a sweet and innocent love song. An ensemble of bass, drums and keys join in during the chorus, carrying the song’s infectiously catchy hook.

I am originally from Columbus Ohio but moved to Sacramento California 2 years ago.

How long have you been making music?

I started making music this year but have always been involved with music from a very young age I had vocal coaching and was involved with musicians.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

My biggest musical influence would be Jon Bellion, I love the freedom he has behind his music and his sound. He often tells stories about his life while creating a masterpiece.

What inspired you to create this project?

My significant other inspired me to create this specific song. I had been stuck in a relationship where I wasn’t happy for 3 years. But 2 years ago I met my best friend who connected deeply with me, after my other relationship she and I got together which made me realize all the things I had been missing emotionally. She is truly wonderful.

What are your plans for the future (musically)?

I am currently working on an album to go with my single, all songs with similar sounds. I am also in the works for a music video that goes with this song.
