Stefan Kristinkov’s Adventurous New Clarinet Vibe

Stefan Kristinkov

Stefan Kristinkov is an accomplished composer, arranger and clarinetist based in New York City who has made a career of creating genre-bending instrumental music. With an extensive knowledge of Classical music, ethnomusicology, Jazz, as well as Eastern-European minimalism and postmodernism, the eclectic composer takes familiar tones into entirely new musical worlds.

Known primarily for his work in independent films and as a clarinet player with an extensive international performing background, Stefan’s music is characterized by its inventiveness and unexpected elements. As a solo artist he has released a series of groundbreaking albums and EPs. “Clarinet Vibe” is the new EP from Stefan Kristinkov, released worldwide to all major streaming services on September 28, 2021. The five song collection features a minimalist arrangement of clarinet, vibraphone, bass guitar and drums. The live quartet embarks on a Jazz fusion journey to explore the space between the notes.

“Clarinet Vibe” explores the idea of limiting the timbral diversity to achieve the maximized aesthetic and emotional impact.

The record’s natural, organic recording brings to mind New York City’s legendary CBS Studios Jazz recordings of the 50’s and 60’s. As the rhythm section flows through Be-bop (“Things to See”) and Bossa Nova (“Smooth Ride”) grooves, Stefan’s clarinet trades melodic textures with the vibes to create a beautiful acoustic Jazz sound. As the record progresses it dives deeper into Jazz fusion grooves on tracks like “Last of a Kind” and the very modern “Searching the Skies.”
