Ekene Music is a singer, songwriter and guitarist with a sound set to the rhythm of nature. A member of Nigeria’s Igbo tribe, Ekene is now based in California. He made his professional solo recording debut in early 2021 with the album “Nature Does Not Rush,” a 15 song collection that used a mix of acoustic and electronic instruments to blend traditional and modern sounds into his own unique vision.
On October 1, 2021 Ekene Music released the album “Unplugged Sessions (Pacific Grove).” Recorded live in the town of Pacific Grove in Monterey County, California, the set features the singer alone with his guitar performing an intimate private concert with 15 “wonderful souls” in attendance.
“Anxious for Nothing” is the lead-off track and current single. The beautiful solo acoustic instrumental paints a serene scene that immediately transports us to that quiet little oceanside concert. We can feel the wood of his guitar breathe as we imagine a candlelit room of friends escaping the world for the Zen simplicity of a man making music. The only words come at the very end of the song when the guitarist utters the question, “Why are you anxious, anxious for nothing?”
Throughout the album Ekene Music shares in words and music his philosophical views. Much of his work focuses on the balance of nature and man’s folly. He sings and speaks in English and his native tongue about finding peace among the chaos of human civilization. Asking questions like, “When is ambition too much?” The singer reminds us not to let money and greed invade our lives and to appreciate the simple things in life.
The feel I was going for is to bring back to the listener the simplicity of just listening to a guitarist, in a pure state… that is when the audience can communicate with the instrument.Ekene Music
