BLOOODHOUND’s New Audio Infiltration

blooodhound

BLOOODHOUND is an experimental electronic music producer from Australia. Over the past two years, the mysterious musician has produced a series of singles and EPs that defy traditional categorization. The artist herself uses modern fringe genre qualifiers like “Witch House” and “Tech Dream” to describe her sound.

However, BLOOODHOUND’S music brings to mind an avant-garde surrealism that predates these classifications. She creates the same sort of audio art that John Lennon and Yoko Ono pioneered on the legendary ‘Revolution 9’ from The Beatles’ ‘White Album’. Her music is like a hypnagogic soundtrack, echoing the modern world through our minds as we float between sleep and the waking world. It is the sound of people and emotion, wood and bone, technology and decay.

‘R.A.T’ (which stands for Remote Access Trojan) is the latest EP from BLOOODHOUND, released worldwide to all major streaming services on September 25, 2021. The six track collection is a sonic concept album of sorts. As suggested by the title, the record is designed as a type of computer virus for the mind. The music is intended to burrow into the listener’s thoughts, like Trojan malware. The sound is designed to recreate that process of infiltration, disruption and modification.

As this progresses, dualities like right and wrong, good and bad, fast and slow become undefinable in their detachment from all physical “real world” implications, a separation that will ultimately render these terms as completely indistinguishable.

A young woman’s sampled voice narrates the tracks. With recurrent phrases like ‘isn’t that funny’ and single word statements like ‘evil’ and ‘real,’ she guides listeners through the journey as a digital entity infiltrates our thoughts. The tracks flow from one to the other without pause. The effect is beautiful, hypnotic and deeply disturbing, often all at the same time.

Traditional musical elements like piano chord progressions, deep EDM bass tones and Lo-fi Trap beats sneak their way into the mix on occasion. However, they are not central to the compositions. They are merely pieces to the puzzle. Found sounds, ringing phones, 911 call recordings and analog synths are all colors in BLOOODHOUND’s palette.
