DCxPC Live are back with the fourth installment of their epic series of live Punk on vinyl. Regular readers of The Static Dive are well acquainted with the Orlando, Florida record label. Founded by friends and bandmates Mr. P and Mike Hellbound, the company was originally formed to promote live concerts. Once everything shut down in 2020, the visionary Punk rockers transformed their enterprise into a vehicle for supporting venues and musicians at a time when the culture of live music is facing extinction.
Each new volume of the DCxPC Live is released in stages. Advanced digital singles, videos and pre-orders introduce the records. With each release, the final product is a beautiful vinyl record packaged with photos and liner notes. The project is preserving the DIY Punk aesthetic on multiple fronts, and nothing is more Rock & Roll than that.
“Year of the Fist Live at The Ivy Room” is the latest release from DCxPC Live. The new 7″ double single is a recording of Oakland, California’s Year of The Fist live on their home stage in Albany, California. YOTF’s flavor of Punk comes dosed with traces of New Wave and Metal. For the last 10 years, the four piece band has been performing throughout the Bay Area and around the world. In that time they have shared bills with Indie legends like L7, Save Ferris and The Vibrators.
The Ivy Room has served as a welcoming stage for YOTF and hundreds of other Bay Area bands for years. Like so many venues across the world, they struggled to stay afloat during the lockdowns of the past 18 months. Through the efforts of allies like YOTF, the club has survived by hosting live streams and other special events. That’s where DCxPC Live Vol 4 comes in.
On May 15, 2021, Year of the Fist got back to their old stomping grounds for the first time in a long time. For an audience that consisted of only the stage crew and bar staff, they fired up their amps. With tape rolling they knocked out a set of their distinctly cool brand of Punk. The tracks “Killer on the Road” and “Red Lights Flash” were captured for all of history on 7 inches of vinyl.
The lights were on, the cameras cued, tape was rolling, and the tubes in our amps were hot. That night we took the stage and took nothing for granted.
