Doug Cash is a singer, songwriter and record label owner from Sacramento, California. A veteran of the Northern California music scene, over the better part of the past 20 years Doug has produced a voluminous catalog of original music for his label, Pryor 2 What ? Records. In that time the prolific creator has released 16 full length albums, dozens of singles and a handful of EPs. A versatile and eclectic songwriter, his songs range from electric Blues to Hip-hop, Pop and acoustic Folk.

“Emotional Treason” is the latest single from Doug Cash. Originally released in 2009 on his “Hodgepodge” album, the song has earned hundreds of thousands of spins over the years on platforms like Reverbnation and Spotify. Cash recently re-released the song to YouTube with a brand new video on June 3, 2021.

The track features Doug Cash alone with his acoustic guitar for an intimate and unadorned performance. As he strums a bit of Jazz-infused Folk, the singer delivers a commentary on personal responsibility and self-love. With a soulful tone he sings of the ’emotional treason’ we commit upon ourselves by choosing to be unhappy. It is an insightful narrative set to a smooth, Pop/Folk tune.

I was born in Long Island, New York. But I grew up in Sacramento, Ca.

How long have you been making music?

I picked up the guitar, a Stella acoustic borrowed from a neighbor, in December of 1975.

Who are the musicians involved in your project?

I wrote, arranged, produced, performed and played all the instruments on the track. Engineered by Matt Erich at EME Studios in Sacramento, Ca.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

Laughingly, I consider myself a graduate of Sly Stone, John Lennon, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon University. It all started with my father’s record collection. Lots of great bands on the Ed Sullivan show, American Bandstand, Soul Train, Midnight Special.

What is your greatest non-musical influence?

My Dad always told me to never be a follower. Be a leader. It took a decade for that to sink in, but I eventually started funding and producing my own projects.

What inspired you to create this project?

“Emotional Treason” was inspired by a conversation with someone who suffered from low self esteem.

What are your plans for the future (musically)?

I’m currently working with my video admin, Alfie in Argentina ,to continue to grow my video catalog for licensing opportunities for television and film.
